Westminster College Bangkok is seeking a skilled and proactive Academic Development Lead to ensure the effective coordination of academic operations. This role serves as a crucial link between teacher development, student services, and whole-college initiatives, contributing to high standards of teaching and learning.

Reporting Line

The Academic Development Lead will report directly to the Vice Principal, working closely with academic staff, students, and leadership to support the college’s continued growth and success.

Purpose of the Role

The appointed candidate will take responsibility for maintaining academic quality, driving innovation in teaching practice, and ensuring that teachers and students receive the support they need to thrive.

Teacher Support and Training

Key duties include managing onboarding for new staff, delivering professional training sessions, and organizing INSET programs. The role also involves distributing course resources that align with curriculum goals and assisting with academic planning.

Classroom Development

The Academic Development Lead will guide teachers in designing schemes of work, preparing lesson materials, and enhancing lesson delivery. Regular classroom observations will be carried out, with constructive feedback provided to foster ongoing professional growth.

Academic Administration

In collaboration with the Vice Principal, the postholder will help implement academic systems and college-wide initiatives. The role also includes involvement in admissions processes, monitoring student performance, and assisting with student-related concerns when needed.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree along with a DELTA, DipTESOL, Trinity Diploma, or MA TESOL. These credentials are essential to ensure the ability to support both staff development and academic delivery.

Desirable Qualifications

Additional qualifications such as a PGCE, QTS, or Cambridge Train the Trainer certification are considered advantageous. These demonstrate an extended commitment to teacher education and professional practice.

Professional Experience

Candidates should have a minimum of five years’ teaching experience, including at least two years with A-level or equivalent pre-university courses. Experience in guiding teachers of non-native English speakers and conducting observation-feedback cycles is essential.

Preferred Experience

Familiarity with A-level exam boards such as Cambridge, Edexcel, or AQA, along with experience in EAP, CLIL, bilingual education, or international school contexts in Asia, will be viewed favorably.

Skills and Competencies

Applicants must show strong knowledge of A-level pedagogy, exam preparation, and CPD delivery methods. Effective mentoring, excellent communication skills, cultural awareness, and the ability to model academic English are vital for success in this role.
